Mushroom House

I am going to make a Mushroom house with vines on it. It is going to have a bottom piece and a removable top/lid.  It will hopefully be a lamp when I am done with it, with the windows on the base and the window on the lid letting out light.

Construction Process

I started this project as two pinch pots put together, and then I changed it to be a pinch pot with a lid. I cut holes in the pinch pot for windows, and I added details for a door, which also has a small window/peephole. After that, I cut out a window in the top and turned it into a shingled dormer roof. I added a chimney, which is hollow so if I put a candle in the lantern, hopefully it will let out smoke and look cool. After that I put slip into a bottle and used that to put vines on the house. I made individual leaves and put them all over the vines. I also made spots for the top of the mushroom, and added further details to the chimney, door, and windows. I haven't yet glazed it.

Comments and Critiques

I dropped the lid when I was glazing it, so I threw away those pieces, and I think that I am just not going to glaze the bottom because there is so much detail, and it really isn't worth it without the top.

Monster Piece

I am going to make a monster piece based on the orange snake-ish monster. Most likely it won't look exactly like the painting, because I want to make it 3D coiled on a rock.

Construction Process

I made a rock shaped lump of clay, and hollowed it out, and then I rolled out a snakey shape and coiled it around the rock. I made a head with a ball of clay that I cut into to make the mouth. I added teeth to it and big round eyes. I also added curling horns that are, in my opinion, better than the horns in the painting. After that I added two rows of fins/spikes all along the back of the monster that get smaller as they go towards the tail. I glazed it in Tangerine, Bright White, Lemon Yellow, Candy Apple, Java Bean, and Black. I used the black glaze to make grey for the rock, but afterwards I realized that I didn't want the rock to be shiny so I wiped it off as best I could. I am going to glaze the rock with grey under glaze after the break.

Comments and Critiques

It is okay, not as good as I had wanted it to be. The skin is a little bit too red, and the spines are too dark, but I really like the way the rock part came out, because there is a little bit of shine, but mostly it is dull.
